At Longfellow, we believe the arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education. Through our in-class visual arts program, students explore creativity, build confidence, and express themselves in meaningful ways.

The Longfellow PTO Los Compadres is proud to bring Art Corps to our TK–3rd grade classrooms.

Art Corps is a hands-on visual arts program that helps students explore creativity, build confidence, and express themselves through art. Built on the belief that every child is an artist, the program encourages students to experiment, take creative risks, and discover their own unique ideas in a supportive environment. There are no mistakes in art—only opportunities to learn and create.

Art Corps lessons are led by trained parent volunteers, making this program a wonderful way for families to be involved in the classroom. No art experience is necessary! Art Corps provides the lesson plans, materials, and volunteer training—you simply bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to encourage young artists.

Whether you're a seasoned artist or have never picked up a paintbrush, we'd love to have you join our Art Corps team!

In addition to the PTO-funded Art Corps program, Longfellow students also participate in arts education through state and district-funded programs.

Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)

In 2022, California voters approved Proposition 28, providing ongoing funding to expand arts education in public schools. At Longfellow, VAPA serves students in TK–3rd grade, giving them access to high-quality instruction in the visual and performing arts.

Arts Education Program (AEP)

The Arts Education Program (AEP) is provided through San Diego Unified School District for TK–6th grade students. AEP brings credentialed arts educators into the classroom to deliver standards-based arts instruction while providing classroom teachers with collaborative grade-level planning time.

Together, Art Corps, VAPA, and AEP help ensure Longfellow students have rich opportunities to explore creativity, develop artistic skills, and express themselves through the arts.
