During Black History Month 2026, Longfellow students had the opportunity to learn from and engage with members of our local community through special educational experiences and guest speakers.
One of the highlights of the month was a series of assemblies led by Keithan Jones, a local comic creator, publisher, and founder of Black Comix Day. Students learned about storytelling, creativity, and the importance of diverse voices in comics, animation, and film. Keithan is also the organizer of Black Comix Day, a free annual community event held at San Diego's WorldBeat Cultural Center celebrating Black creators and their contributions to the arts.
The Black History Month committee also worked to connect students with additional Black creators and educators throughout the month, helping broaden students' understanding of Black history, culture, and achievements.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped plan and support these meaningful learning opportunities.
