At Longfellow, we believe the arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education. Our students participate in three different in-class arts programs throughout the year, giving them the chance to explore creativity through visual art, music, theatre, dance, and more.
These programs are made possible through a combination of state funding and PTO support.
The Arts Education Project brings visual and performing arts directly into Longfellow classrooms. Funded by the Longfellow PTO, this program provides students with rotating instruction in three artistic disciplines—such as dance, music, theatre, visual art, or media arts—throughout the year.
Led by specially trained visiting teachers, each lesson is standards-based and designed to spark creativity and expression. These engaging sessions also give classroom teachers dedicated time for collaborative planning.
Students receive six lessons per year, with a new one approximately every five weeks.

Art Corps is a hands-on visual arts program that encourages creativity, confidence, and self-expression in every student. With the belief that everyone is an artist, this program gives children the chance to explore their own unique ideas—reminding them there’s no right or wrong in art, just endless possibilities.
Art Corps is led by parent volunteers and is always looking for helping hands in the classroom. No art experience needed—just a willingness to join the fun and support our young artists!

In November 2022, California voters approved Proposition 28, which allocates significant ongoing funding to expand arts education at every school in the state. The program provides equitable access to all arts disciplines for UTK-3 students and may be customized for school needs.
