There are daily fun activities and children are encouraged to wear red bracelets handed out at the beginning of the week.

Dia de los Muertos (October)

Dia de los Muertos is a traditional celebration of the lives of people that have passed away. We celebrate this day at Longfellow with a very popular evening event that includes food, displays of classroom projects, performances by Longfellow’s Ballet Folklorico group and the Sophia Isadora Circus Academy, and a special edition of Loteria with prizes for everyone. Children and adults can participate in a wide variety of hands-on activities including sugar skull decorating, skull mask creation, jewelry making, and magnet painting.

Silent Auction (April)

The Silent Auction is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Members of the Longfellow community and local businesses create baskets of wonderful items that are auctioned off at an evening event for adults.

Spring Photos (April)

The Spring Photo event is an opportunity for parents to purchase professional photos of their children taken at school for very reasonable prices. A portion of the proceeds is retained by the PTA.

Dia del Maestro (May)

This wonderful Teacher Appreciation event gives us the opportunity to celebrate and honor our teachers and staff. Students are encouraged to do simple, kind things for their teachers each day, such as writing a thank you note. A celebratory off-campus lunch is sponsored by the PTA for all teaches and administrators.

Fiesta de Primavera (June)

Our school Spring Carnival is a wonderful event with an art theme. Every child in the school has at least one piece of art they have created during the year displayed for all to enjoy. Food, game booths, performances, and fun activities are also a large part of this after school event.

Art Corps (ongoing through school year)

Art Corps a comprehensive, developmental curriculum which teaches artistic fundamentals by bringing process-oriented, hands on art experience to the classroom. The success of this program depends upon parent volunteers who are trained in workshops to teach art in the classroom. We believe that everyone is an artist. Art gives our children a unique opportunity to react to their environment. It also gives them a chance to develop individuality and self-esteem.

Longfellow ECO Group (ongoing through school year)

The Longfellow ECO Group was formed by parents and teachers in 2007 to increase environmental awareness and promote at recycling program at Longfellow. Goals include systematic paper, can, bottle, toner, and cell phone recycling on campus, along with environmentally focused school assemblies and field trips.

Coffee with the Principal (ongoing through school year)

On the fourth Friday of each month, members of the Longfellow Community are invited to have coffee and a light breakfast with our principal, Flavia Soria. This event takes place in the school lounge. The atmosphere is casual and topics for discussion can be suggested by anyone.

Beautification Committee (ongoing through school year)

This committee of dedicated administrators, teachers, and parents seeks to identify and improve key areas of our school campus. Their efforts have included clean-up days, new trees and plants, decorative benches, and the beautiful tile mosaic walls throughout our campus.

Cultural Arts and Assemblies (ongoing through school year)

Throughout the school year, the Longfellow PTA works with the school district to bring interesting and appropriate assemblies to campus. Traditionally, each grade attends at least two assemblies per school year. Assemblies are frequently performers such as drama troupes, musicians, and authors. There are also speakers about subjects such as the environment, history, and science.
